In 2015, an enterprise sized printing and imaging company decided they wanted to create a smart printer portal. This portal was intended to help their clients’ staff members manage their internal fleet of printers; though, the printing and imaging company would still manage the printers for their clients. This portal was to serve as a way for their clients’ staff to communicate their needs to the printing and imaging company. In practice, this would look like specific requests such as, “I need more ink for Printer X in the copy room on the second floor,” or “I need service for Printer Y on the 4th floor.”
This sophisticated portal would provide valuable insight about print and ink spending in each department within a business, allow customer staff to submit printer service requests, and provide information about customer interactions to the executive team of the printing company. With this portal, smart printers could “talk” with other printers and communicate data back to the IT team. As this was a complex project, it would require analysis of user experience and extensive data reporting. The printing company wanted the best IT experts working on this product, as it was going to be a major undertaking in regards to expense, complexity, their brand image, and would require skills beyond the current IT staff’s capabilities. They needed backend management, cloud management, cloud native software implementation, and the software architecture would need to be both designed and implemented.
Cloud Application Development Experts Make All The Difference
Importantly, the leaders of this project weren’t very comfortable yet with the “cloud,” and their staff were mainly only accustomed to on-premise designs. Hence, they needed a team of IT experts that were comfortable with cloud oriented thinking and were able to communicate these concepts to their team.
Finding an IT advisor that would be able to accurately and efficiently provide each of these tech services appeared to be a very ambitious initiative.
The first step for this process was finding the best talent possible for the job. Because of the former success this print and imaging company achieved with Digital Maelstrom, our Operations and Development services were called in once again – specifically, cloud application development. This time, our IT experts comprehensively created and designed the software architecture of this sophisticated print portal. Our team was responsible for fully managing things on the backend.
Near the project’s completion, DM executives flew to the company’s headquarters for several meetings. Both sets of leaders discussed what they wanted to accomplish, and what their next steps were for this cloud application development project. Together, they analyzed all aspects and fine details of the project and ensured it was ready for release. Today, Digital Maelstrom and this printing company continue to have a valuable, constructive relationship with one another.
